Angus has a broad range of litigation experience as a solicitor, including statutory compensation, common law, insurance and commercial litigation.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Angus was employed in-house at Coles Group Limited in a WorkCover self-insurance role, which involved managing Victorian common law and statutory benefits claims across Coles Group businesses, as well as advising the internal claims team as to appropriate claim and dispute management.
Prior to that, Angus spent over 8 years in Minter Ellison’s Insurance and Corporate Risk Group, latterly as a Senior Associate. His experience at Minter Ellison included personal injury, professional indemnity, class actions, commercial litigation and banking and finance insurance.
During his time at Minter Ellison, Angus managed a busy and diverse WorkCover practice including serious injury applications, common law, statutory benefits, revocations, judicial review and appeals. This experience included proceedings at all levels of the Victorian Courts, including a successful appeal to the Court of Appeal in Spotless Facility Services Pty Ltd v Trpceva and Ors [2016] VSCA 217.
Angus was first admitted to practice as a solicitor in Scotland in 2009, and trained at UK Law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP. His experience there included competition and regulation (particularly in the energy sector), property and construction disputes, commercial leasing, corporate restructuring and insolvency.
Angus obtained a First Class Honours Degree in Law from the University of Edinburgh, and also completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice there. After migrating to Australia, Angus completed a Diploma in Law part-program at the University of Sydney, leading to admission in Victoria in 2014.
